17 - 19 May 2012

17 May 2012
I had a run around day on Thursday.  Claire had to have a blood test done first thing in the morning to see if she's anaemic. We then went to Starbucks (attached to Sainsbury's) so she could have something to eat before doing her weekly shop.  Alice and I went for a wander round Sainsbury's and left Claire too it :)
I then popped round to help my Dad fill in some paperwork for a policy which has just matured in South Africa. Once we'd completed it we had to go to a Solicitors to get it certified and then go back to the house to scan and email it all over to SA.
I went home for a quick lunch before taking Claire back up to the Dr's for an appointment where we found out that she's not anaemic but does have quite low blood pressure - which could be why she's been feeling faint at work when she's on her feet for too long.
And finally, back to Dad's to resend all the paperwork as the files had been too big to be accepted at the other end and then home to make dinner.
I'm just really glad I remembered to take a photo in amongst it all!

18 May 2012
We're all trying to eat more healthily in our house at the moment.  Fruit has become the go to food if we fancy a snack and I'm certainly noticing how much we go through now.  This solitary grapefruit was all that was left in the fruit bowl on Friday night - lucky I go shopping on Saturday morning :).  This week we went through 5 bags of oranges, 4 bags of fruit, 3 bunches of bananas, 2 punnets of grapes, 3 grapefruit and 2 lemons.

I don't feel like my weekends have really started until after Mum and I have done our weekly grocery shop and had our Starbucks. After lunch Norma called me on Skype and we got to have a long chat, which was really nice.  In the evening, while watching a couple of programme's I'd recorded on Sky+, I carried on with the latest little jumper I'm knitting.

I haven't taken a photo for today yet and I'm not sure what I'm going to take it of. I had been going to take one of my desk but I don't think I want to remember the state it's in ;o)   I've spent this afternoon bringing my Project Life album up to date.  I know I don't show it on here but it's going well and I'm glad I'm hanging in there!

Have you been up to anything nice this weekend?

10 000 Steps and a card

I started wearing my pedometer yesterday so that I could get an idea of how many steps I take in a day. I know that the recommended daily is 10 000 but had no idea how many I might take. So, I took Cloud for her walk, I walked home from town after meeting my friend Sarah for a coffee and I was on my feet around the house and up and down the stairs. I was really shocked when I checked to see how many steps I'd taken just before I went to bed. Only 5 384!! Wow!
.
Today I've worn it all day again and as I sat down to type this, I took a photo to show how many steps I've taken today.
It's better than yesterday but still nearly 3000 short of the recommended daily. Today I took Cloud for her walk, went into town and walked around town and I've been on my feet most of the day. I'm going to have to look at going for a longer walk or a couple of walks a day just to try and get my step total up more. Do any of you wear a pedometer, do you hit 10 000 steps a day? I'd be interested to know how you reach your target.
To end tonight, a photo of the card I made for a friend's birthday. I think if you click on it you should be able to see it more clearly.
Have a good evening.

Healthy Eating Update

I realised this morning that I was supposed to take a photo last week for my monthly update and I hadn't. I got Claire to take another photo of me this morning instead. I've worn the same clothes (I think last time I had also just taken Cloud for a walk!) so that I can get a better idea of whether it's working or not. I have to say, I'm quite happy with the progress so far - still a long way to go but I can see a slight improvement. It's encouraged me to keep on with what I'm doing and stick to the Weight Watchers plan. xx

Half way through the week

Today's been quite a quiet day. I did my exercises first thing this morning (well, once Emily had gone to school!) and then took Cloud for a walk. It was a bit grey and drizzly but we did our circuit and home again in 20 minutes. Today's other exercise was going up and down the stairs three times in succession and to do that four times in the day. I've got one more set to do and then I'm done. Claire invited Mum, Dad and me for breakfast at Wetherspoons. I'd told her about going last week but because she'd been at work she wasn't able to join us. Seeing as she's on holiday this week she thought it would be good to go again. Really good value and very enjoyable. Thanks Claire!
.
I had the house to myself for a couple of hours this afternoon for the first time in ages. I ate my lunch watching an episode of ER then brought the kittens down into the lounge. When Emily got home we let them out to explore and they met Cloud and Tom. Cloud follows them around and gets in their way but Tom was happy to watch from his spot on the sofa. There wasn't any hissing or claws out so I'd say it was fairly successful. Charlie wasn't in the house at the time so I'm not sure what he'll be like. Hopefully he'll be fine and then we'll be able to let them out of Emily's room.
This evening's supper was a chicken and vegetable curry with basmati rice. It was very tasty and I'm quite full now. For anyone wanting a slightly healthier curry, this is the recipe for one person (taken from Rosemary Conley's Inch Loss Plan).
.
Quick Chicken Curry
Dry fry 1 x 115g chopped chicken breast (no skin) in a preheated non stick pan with 1/2 a chopped onion and 1 crushed garlic clove. Sprinkle 1 tsp curry powder over and cook for 1 minute then add 1 small chopped chilli (I didn't add chilli as I don't like my curry too hot), 1/2 chopped green pepper (I used red pepper), 25g button mushrooms and a 400g tin of chopped tomatoes. Simmer for 5 minutes to reduce. Serve with 144g cooked basmati rice (55g uncooked weight).
.
Enjoy!!
