A Poem

Shimelle's prompt today was to post a poem that has inspired us. I don't know many poems or read poems, so this post is quite a difficult one for me. When I sat thinking about it the one that sprang to my mind first was this one.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"

The Lord replied,
"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you."

This poem is moving and comforting. We all need someone to lean on in times of trouble and stress - be it The Lord or our friends. We have had prayers answered in difficult times and are so grateful. I also have family and good friends who are there for me when I need to talk and I hope they know that I am always there for them too.

As for a photo for today, I took this one last night when Emily had her first turn at cutting her Dad's hair. Jon wanted a haircut and because I was busy at the time, told Emily she could cut it for him. She did a good job and I just added the finishing touches.
