Back to School

Emily's school opened again today after 3 snow days. Needless to say Emily was a bit disappointed she wasn't going to get to stay at home again today (and it was quite cold this morning) but was looking forward to seeing her friends. The school had said they could wear boots or trainers and extra layers with their uniforms. Last night I took up Emily's new school trousers so she could wear them today and she wore Wellies to walk to school and home again but took some fur lined boots to wear around the school. She's home now but said some areas around school were still quite icy. She's had some hot chocolate and has disappeared up to her room ;o) I told Mum I didn't think I was ready to drive yet so we gave Sainsbury's a miss and I walked down to have coffee with Mum and Dad instead. I took my camera with me and got a few more snow photos on the way. Are you totally sick of them all yet?

We had a lovely long chat while having coffee and before I knew it, it was nearly lunch time and time for me to head home and make Jon and Hugh some lunch.

This afternoon a number of the men from our road have been out with their shovels trying to clear some of the snow off the road. They've done well and with a bit of luck I'll be able to drive again in the next day or so. I, however, stayed inside and made a start on tidying the bookcase in the kitchen. It's one of those places that gets things put on it and then left there. I've cleared out a fair bit and sorted through the magazines. At least I've made a start! Now there's just the rest of the kitchen to tackle ;o)

I escaped for a short while :)

Jon managed to get the car out yesterday and again this morning when he went to Church. When he said he was going out again to meet his brother, Emily and I decided to get a lift in to town and said we'd walk home after we'd finished. It felt sooooo good to get out for a while!!! I was in such a bad mood this morning and ready to climb the walls ;o) - I told Jon it was Cabin Fever!

So, after being dropped off Emily and I went into a few shops first (we were looking for some Wellies for Emily but everywhere had sold out :o( I managed to get a hat which doesn't make me look totally silly and which kept my ears warm) and then decided to go to Starburger for something to eat. We haven't been there for ages so it was nice to eat there again. Starburger isn't a fancy restaurant but the people who run it are really friendly and the food is always good - Emily maintains that they make the best chips in East Grinstead!

The High Street in East Grinstead. These are original Tudor buildings which we are lucky enough to have in our town. While we were having lunch Emily and I were imagining the people of olden days in their long dresses, bonnets and capes walking through a snowy East Grinstead.

As you can see, the roads in town are fairly clear but the side roads are far from it, unfortunately!

The bottom branches of this tree reminded me of Yule Logs ;o)

This photo is taken looking down into the Estate where we live. I think it's one of the nicer ones in East Grinstead (but I may be biased!)

I had to take a photo of our house from outside so we can remember the icicles we have!

We stopped to talk to Helen, one of our neighbours. Her children had built an igloo in their front garden which is big enough for someone to climb inside - as Ruby was happy to demonstrate!

You can just see their big snowman beside the igloo and if you look carefully you can see the little snowman in the bottom left corner :o)

At this stage we have no idea whether Emily will be going back to school tomorrow or not. We've still been having light snow showers all afternoon but the snow does seem to be starting to melt a little bit. I guess we'll just have to keep checking the school website and, in the meantime, Emily is busy working her way through all the work they were set.

I hope you've all had a good weekend and that next week is a bit clearer than it is at the moment so I can get out and about ;o)

Still more snow!!! :o(

I know you're probably getting a bit fed up with seeing snow photos - I know I am!! However, there's not a lot going on around here at the moment so it's snow photos or nothing I'm afraid! We had a few more snow flurries this morning but it's clear at the moment. More snow is predicted for tomorrow and Monday at the moment.

Emily is keeping busy doing the homework that was set for them and is quite happy. Claire has the day off work so didn't have to walk in this morning. She's back at work tomorrow though. Hugh is still unable to get in to work (as are most of the other people who work with him) and has also aggrivated a recent knee injury by walking in the snow yesterday. Not good! He's finally thinking he may need to see a doctor once we're able to get out and about again whereas, when it first happened, he hadn't felt he needed to.

Icicles!! This is what made me grab my camera in the first place. I have never seen icicles this long before and these were outside my bedroom window

I'm thinking I should go and start sorting through and tidying my kitchen but it feels like a huge task! Am I the only one who has so much clutter on the work surfaces? I go through phases where I'm really good and clear everything off and then keep it neat and tidy for a while but then the piles accumulate again! Over Christmas they have got worse :o( so I guess I really do need to get stuck in and tidy - yeuch!! I do not enjoy housework - it's an evil necessity!! I'd far rather be crafting :o)

Emily's snow rap ;)

Emily is on her third snow day today but this time there's a difference. The teachers have set work for the children to do from home ;o). One of Emily's tasks is to make a snow rap for music. These photos show her performing her rap for me lol!!!
